Students policies

Admission policies:

The King Khalid University follows the Ministry of Education’s guidelines on admissions for the aspirant students who apply for admission. The Department of MIS and College of Business follow the same for students’ admission, since the department follows a quality-intensive approach that creates a strong professional environment that helps to disseminate knowledge. The university aim is to develop competitive graduates who could influence at national and regional level and contribute globally. The university is shaped by the values of academic excellence, community, professionalism, integrity and inclusiveness.

The setting of high admissions standards plays a vital role in maintaining the academic excellence. The Deanship of Admissions and Registration at King Khalid University stipulates the rules and regulations of undergraduate study, examinations, and its Implementation. These policies and processes are discussed in the following sections and available at (https://dar.kku.edu.sa/ )

The admission of prospective students is dealt by the University Council, which determines the number of students to be admitted for each academic year, based on the recommendations of the MIS’s Department Council and approved by the College Council. The deanships of admissions, registration, and the student affairs collaborate in developing, monitoring, implementing and following up the admission services.

The MIS department offers Bachelor of Management Information Systems and practices a student centric pedagogy on teaching and learning process; especially in core courses. The admission criteria and eligibility norms are available in public domains in the form of printed material and online through the university website (https://dar.kku.edu.sa/ ). The aspiring students must fulfill the following requirements to get admission in the undergraduate degree program:

1. Applicant should have earned Saudi Secondary School certificate, or its equivalent, majored in natural or technological sciences.

2. Applicant is required to take an entrance exam, which consists of an aptitude test, and subject test administered by the National Assessment Centre for Higher Education in a large number of centers across the Kingdom.

a. The aptitude test has two components: Mathematics and Linguistics. The test is aimed at determining the general capabilities of students in the two areas mentioned above.

b. The subject test is an objective type multiple-choice test given in five subjects, i.e., Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.

The objective of this examination is to evaluate the student's knowledge and the ability in English language and of the courses, they have learned in their pre-university educational institutions.

The admission in the program is competitive in comparison to all other departments of the college. Also admission to the King Khalid University is competitive vis-à-vis other universities of the region and Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Applicants are granted admission to the maximum allowed intake in accordance with an overall evaluation on the basis of their academic record and the entrance examinations. The program is offered in the traditional and electronic-learning mode. The e-learning courses are handled both in blended and fully online streams. All the admitted students are provided with e-learning training. All the offered courses are framed as per the guidelines of the National Quality Framework (NQF). The unit of academic advising provides necessary guidelines to the students for selecting their courses after the verification of subject pre-requisites and according to students’ academic record through the online academic record from the registration module which shows the student credit units of their completed and remaining courses. The complete details about the program requirements, services, and relevant information are provided to the admitted students in the student’s manual and the university’s Information System, i.e., Academia, in addition to the student orientation. Deanship of students’ affairs facilitates and implements all the student services which are offered by the university.

Student evaluation policies:

The performance of the students are evaluated based on their performance on assessments, such as long/short tests, quizzes, lab and programming assignments, and written assignments such as essays and research articles. Every single course does not necessarily use all of these assessment items; this is done with respect to the nature of the courses. The department has well-defined mechanism for the progression as follows:

  • Every academic year has two semesters and an optional summer semester. A final examination is scheduled at the end of every semester.
  • If a student fails in a particular course, he must re-register himself in next semester. In some cases, re-exam is organized on special approval.
  • If a student fails to attain the required level in an exam (theory and practical), he will be graded as failed.
  • There is a mechanism on accumulated GPA by the students. If a student scores less than 2.0 cumulative GPA, he will get warning on respective semesters or over the period of study and if the student fails to improve the percentage; the admission to the program would be cancelled.
  • The examination process is controlled and monitored in hierarchy by the department and college exam committees exclusively in accordance with the defined policies.
  • The teacher(s), coordinator, and knowledge area heads of the course are responsible for smooth handling of the course, to conduct and evaluate the exam and to publish the result, depicted in Table 1. This must be according to the set guidelines by following the quality standards (examination policies proof- https://dar.kku.edu.sa/ - Study list and exams).
  • The evaluation of student performance on each course is measured and graded on the following scales.
