Students policies

Graduate/Capstone project policies:

The final year project is selected in mutual concern of students and the assigned supervisor. It is mandatory for supervisors to provide technological domain, area of interest, project title, functional and nonfunctional requirements. After the project selection, it is necessary to submit an abstract to the department’s project committee. Students have been encouraged by both the supervisors and the project committee to decide the project of their interest. The project committee designates supervisor for projects and takes approval from the head of the department. Each project is allotted to a group of maximum of three students. Both, students and supervisor have to work together from, the idea into implementation in achieving the project objectives.

It means that the supervisor has to provide full cooperation while supervising the project. Coordinators will inform the committee if, the students are or project group is unable to contact the supervisor continuously for two weeks.

Project students’ responsibilities

  • Follow the university regulations and project guidelines provided by the project committee and the project supervisor.
  • A schedule is fixed for each project; both students and supervisor must follow the same or can be rescheduled in mutual concerns.
  • Make aware that if the students face any problem (academic and personal) that may affect the project schedule must inform to the supervisor well in advance. If the matter cannot be resolved, it should be reported to the project committee and eventually to the head of the department.
  • Students are advised to follow supervisor instructions, consider the recommendations, and act on recommended actions.
  • Discuss and design the project layouts with the supervisor prior to the technical report writing.
  • Plan and write the project reports so as to give the supervisor adequate time for reading the preliminary draft well ahead of the submission date.
  • Stick to the schedule as agreed or reschedule in mutual concern if necessary.
  • Keep relevant document / forms required in each phase of the project development.
  • Incorporate supervisor’s comments and feedback into the project development phases and seek for clarification if it is necessary.
  • Inform the supervisor if deviations are observed from the actual time frame.

Plagiarism policy on project thesis

Students are advised to refer reliable resources and top rated scientific works for literature review. Further, the citations of scientific work in thesis writing must be appropriate. The department makes it, very clear that the project report should be the student’s work and it must not contain any plagiarized work. If the work or part of it is plagiarized; it shall be treated as a disciplinary offence against the defined ethics. It is punishable whether it is done deliberate or accidental.

Project evaluation process

Any project is evaluated by following the standard template and defined criteria. The template is designed by the department’s project committee by involving the project supervisors. It includes the project evaluation and marking criteria. The template is circulated to students and the potential supervisors well in advance. Moreover, project students and supervisors should considered the project evaluation process that involves the following criteria:

  • Uniqueness of the project
  • Project relevance to the field of Information Systems and application in MIS
  • Complexity of the project
  • Feasibility of the project

For project evaluation, first, students have to submit the project plan in a template that is provided by the project committee. Students have to articulate the project details such as aims and objectives, scope, requirements, and work break down structure in the template. Second, the project committee will provide the guidelines to project evaluators (examiners) that have to be followed for the thesis and project evaluation. The guidelines include project plan, intermediate report, poster, and project deliverables according to the agreed schedule.
